Le Mancel, Restaurant du Château is nestled in the heart of the Ducal Castle in Caen next to the Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Normandy, a stone's throw from St Pierre Church and the historic center of the city of Caen.
The restaurant is located opposite the ramparts and the charming garden of statues. Opened in 1994, Le Mancel pays tribute to Pierre Bernard Mancel, a former bookseller and fine collector from Caen.
Pierre Bernard Mancel, humble donor, bequeathed on his death in 1872 to the City of Caen 45 Dutch paintings from the 17th century and a few other Flemish and Italian paintings, including The Virgin and Child by Rogier van der Weyden and Saint Jacques by Cosimo Tura, as well as art objects and his albums of prints, all placed in the Museum of Fine Arts.
